Year 4

The children have been using illustrations with hidden clues from our new Pathways to Write book, 'Where the Forest Meets the Sea', to make predictions about what the key messages and themes may be about.  Great teamwork, everyone!

This morning, children in Year 4 have been using Numicon to support their understanding of adding fractions. 

This half term, we are designing and building a sling-shot car.  The children carefully followed instructions and used hot glue guns safely to construct the chassis.  

Children in Year 4 have been learning how to follow a recipe.  They have learnt the skills of measuring, creaming and rubbing in.

This afternoon, we have been learning about the Earth's crust being made up of tectonic plates which fit together like a huge jigsaw puzzle. 

We have built our own tectonic plates using cream and biscuits.

Children in Year 4 have been using their map skills to locate the world's volcanoes.  

As part of our PSHR(S)E Curriculum, children in Year 4 have been learning about asthma - what it is and how to help someone who is having an asthma attack.  As part of the lesson, children made their own paper lungs to demonstrate what happens during an asthma attack and practised helping someone…

Year 4 have been using key words and sentences from our new Literacy text to predict what the story might be about.  

Year 4 have had a very noisy afternoon creating straw pipes and a pipe flute. 

The children discovered that: the shorter straws produced a higher pitch note and the longer straws produced a lower pitched note.  

This half term in Year 4, we've been looking at variables within our computing lessons.
